Training Philosophy

The Training Goal:

The goal of this home inspection training program is to provide the student with the basic inspection knowledge to enable system and component identification that can be correlated to inspection procedures.    When a system is identified, the inspector must understand the intended function of the system, be able to identify all related components, be able to locate and recognize evidence or indications of defects specific to the system, and be able to clearly communicate in writing any concerns to the client.

The Report:

Home Inspection is an integrated process of observation and report writing where definite procedures exists for inspecting and reporting each system and component of a home.  In this process each step that a home inspector takes is a guided tour presented by the home itself.  The home inspector is an observer or a guest on a quest of information gathering and discovery, a quest to acquire an understanding of the home as a system to ensure defect discovery. There are two parts of an inspection, the actual field inspection and the home inspection report.  

The Field Inspection:

The inspection is based on a tiered outline of procedures that result from an imaginary flow chart of yes and no as the inspector identifies and describes systems and components of the home.   The core of every home is the same, so the background information is the basis on which each inspection section is started.  Experience, problem solving abilities, and research allow the inspector to fill in all the blank spots that makes each house challenging and unique.  Proper technical knowledge and training allows the inspector to develop the required skills to be able to enter a home and thoroughly inspect following a standard of practice.
